The weather is definitely keeping us on our toes with feed planning and management at the moment. It is hard to believe that a hot dry summer is in the forecast with what is being thrown at us at the moment. Our priority is getting all the necessary silage and baleage finalised for winter to avoid the situation we found ourselves in a couple of years ago when we had to buy at the top of the market when we had a long dry summer and autumn,
It is nice to see our wee fodder beet plants doing OK. We have definitely been luckier than some in Canterbury that had hectares of beet shredded by hail earlier in the week.
